The Future's Phone Call

It had been quite some time since the boys left Mommy's side. Mojo was asleep on her lap and Archie sat by the armrest of the couch, having his mum pat him and stroke his fur. They sat calmly as mommy watched a movie.

'Here's popcorn' Papa came and sat down on the floor, leaning his back on the couch, putting his head on Mommy's legs. Mommy sat with her favorite boys in the world watching Will Smith's 'I Am Legend'.

Mommy took some popcorn and put it in her mouth. The first crunch and Mojo startled and sat up waiting for his share. His sleepy eyes and saggy mouth didn't hold him back from wanting some. As usual, Mommy bit off the kernels and gave him the softer bits. He ate some and Papa took the bowl back before she could overfeed Mojo. Archie, as usual, didn't care as long as Mommy was beside him.

The movie ended and the boys were fast asleep.

'Would you like to stay the night?' she looked at Papa with a glow in her eyes.

'Uh.' he was hesitant and her smile began to melt.

Archie observed.

'I'm not sure. Wouldn't that be troublesome for you and the guys?'

Mommy just leaned back, a little embarrassed.

'I'd love to though. I can help with the chores if you have any.' He said.

'There aren't any chores, really.'

'Would you like to get something to drink? A beer maybe?' he suggested.

'Not a big fan. Not my kind of high.' She smiled.

'I have your kind of high in my wallet too. ' he smirked.

'The balcony is that way.'





They walked out to the balcony and begun talking over the spliff.

'Pssst.' Archie nudged Mojo. 'They're going to get knocked out with that stuff. We can have another case sorted by tonight.'



Droopy Mojo sat up and nodded. They sat there staring at the two in the balcony. Mommy pointed at the starlit sky and said something and giggled. She moved her face closer to his and they sealed a kiss. Mojo's first response was to intervene and grab all her attention.

In some time, they left to  Mommy's room to get some sleep, or other things Archie didn't care about as long as they didn't get out all night.



The boys took the gadget and got to the balcony. They began scrolling down on the mails and found an unusual mail from an address that didn't seem like the language the boys had ever heard of.

The opened the mail and saw a set of irregular shapes in a pattern. Mojo took the gadget in his paws and tried to check for a translation feature. The minute he switched it on, the shapes in the mail began to move and formed what looked like a weird instrument.

'What on earth is that?' Archie looked closely, sniffing the screen.

'Beep...beep...beep.' the gadget began to ring aloud like a broken fire siren.

'Turn it off! Help me turn it off!' Mojo panicked.  Archie snatched the gadget and pressed the power button.

'Phew!' he sighed.

'Hey.' Archie heard a faint voice. 'What?' he turned towards Mojo.

'What?' Mojo looked as confused. They stared at each there awkwardly.

'Hey Cat Dog.' they heard again.

They looked into the gadget. 'Didn't we just turn this off?' he looked up.

'Hullo.' Mojo picked the phone. Archie sighed at his dogccent.

'Cat Dog?' the other side of the line spoke.

'Ruh-roh' Mojo looked at Archie. 'I think they know who we are.'

Archie snatched the gadget and placed it over his ear. 'Hello, This is agent Morchie. How may I help you?' He asked.

'You're Cat and Dog, right?' the voice asked again.

'No. I'm a fully grown man with a prominent jawline, abs and ripped calf muscles.' he said.

'We know you're white cat and gold dog.'

'What?' He panicked. 'How do you know that? Nobody knows that. Not even our mommy.'

'Listen to me carefully. I am Peppa. I am your great granddaughter. I'm a white Persian cat.' the voice spoke.

'No way! Stop this fish crap!' Archie spoke.

'Grandpa, listen.'

'Call me that again and I will make sure your kitty purr comes out of a toothless mouth again.'

'I'm from the future. I carried your legacy. Stop being an ass about it. I run Ask Morchie now!'

Archie's white face got paler with fright.

'Okay. What do you want me to do, grand-kitty?' he dragged the last word, unsure of how much sense it made.

'There is a huge problem.'

'Ok before that does Mojo have great grand puppies?

'So many. Jojo junior is right beside me.'

'Fuck that's the name? My team has cooler names.' he giggled. 'Whats happening? Mojo asked.

'Hold on.' He paused the call. 'I'm on a call with my great grand kitten Peppa and your great grand puppy with a boring name, Jojo Junior is beside her and they're calling from the future and the run Ask Morchie now. Period.'

'Too much to take.' Mojo dipped his mouth into his water bowl and sipped some on.

Archie put it on speaker for the both of them to hear.

'We're listening, kids.' he chuckled at his own stupid joke.

'There is a problem.'

'Hello Peppa. I'm Mojo.' he continued being the adorable puff he is.

'I know, grandpa. Hi!' she meowed.

'So can we talk about the problem now?' She asked.

'Oh yes. Go on.'

'There is this huge Mushroom growing here.'

'Must be Mommy's' Mojo giggled. 'How huge are we talking about?' Archie inquired.

'It has crushed down every house in the street and has grown on it.'

'Whaaaaat?'

'Yes. We tried to destroy it but it simply won't stop growing. All the animals that are not watched over end up eating it and begin to hallucinate and create a ruckus. This is costing lives.' She panicked.

They stared at each other.

'The scientists have studied it and believe that someday it will cover the whole earth and people will eventually die.'

'So you want us to come there?' Archie asked.

'Not really grandpa. You can save us only when you're there in your time period.'

'We found out that if you kill them in the initial stages, they die and don't spread. And our studies say that this sprouted approximately in your time period. I need you guys to find out where it is and destroy it right away.'

'Woah. Where do we find it?'

'I don't know you guys. Go on a mission or something. Try looking in the backyard.'
 The boys quickly hung up and put the torch in the gadget on.
They ran around the house to the backyard and began searching for it restlessly. After a three hour long search, they found nothing and decided to look for it the next day when there was more light. They now knew how to contact Peppa and informed her about the failed mission.

The slept a little disappointed that night, knowing that they had the perfect opportunity to solve a mission but couldn't do it.
It was 5 AM and that day, Papa walked out to take Mojo for his poop session.

'Wow. He lets her sleep while he takes this poop factory out for a discharge. Look who found a keeper.' Archie mumbled. 'And he's a gifted masseur.
Dawn broke out and the new couple went on with their jobs while the boys looked around the backyard to find a mushroom or any lump that looked like it. All efforts went in vain as they hadn't found any.
The same evening they sat in the doorway from the kitchen to the backyard looking for something suspicious while mommy was busy cooking.
'Hello, peeps. What's cooking?' Mommy's brother had come for a visit.
'Hello boys.' He came to them while Mojo jumped all over him.
'What are you cooking? he asked mommy.
'So I looked up this recipe on youtube. Its supposed to be a kind of veggie curry with radish, soya, and mushroom.' she explained.
Archie's ears straightened up while Mojo's nose got alert.
'But I think I overcooked it. It's gotten all soggy. There are more veggies in the fridge if you want to make a salad.' she said.
'I'm going to go get the guys some treats until then.' She left the kitchen.
The boys stared at their uncle as the tiny dumbwit ate all the cashews from the shelf.

'Hey look guys, here's something funny.' he took another bottle from the shelf with some coriander leaves and Mommy' tablet.
'Chef Archie, could you please put on the mixer.' he asked. 'Oh wait. You're a cat.' he giggled and went to the mixer. He dropped the tablets, the coriander leaves, and some M&Ms and mixed it into fine powder. He put some mushrooms and other veggies into it and shook it like it was a milkshake.
'Hey, do you want hot chocolate?' Mommy entered.

He panicked and threw it out of the door into the backyard. The boys saw the whole mystery unfold.
'No.' He said as he quietly walked out without even looking at her.
'What was that?' Mommy turned towards the boys.

The same night, Archie and Mojo cleaned up the entire mess and set fire to the 'accidental' invention their uncle had made.
'Did you know the world was once covered with giant mushrooms before trees?' Mojo asked.
'I saw you checking that article out on Facebook from mommy's phone.' Archie responded 'Well at least, the future won't see them.'

The boys went and cuddled beside Mommy that night.
