Back To Work
Mojo was lying on the couch while his chin dropped on to the soft cushions, making his face look like an adorable old lady who'd forgotten to put on her dentures. His eyes wandered from one corner to the other in boredom. He heard faint steps and quickly turned to his left.
'How's it going?' Archie asked.
'How's what going?' he dropped his chin down again, this time facing Archie.
'Bird watching. Except there are no birds. Only that ugly one in the picture.' he pointed at a picture on the wall.
'That's mommy's cousin.' Mojo narrowed his eyes.
'Yeah. She's too ugly to be a bird. I know.'
Mojo turned away.
'Listen up sonny boo. Mommy just called. I heard her talk to the thing that looks like the ugly bird. She's coming to get us.'
'Yay!' Mojo's face lit up. He was made of 40% skills, 40% love and 20% excitement. He had a bank of energy that he'd use everytime he heard something he liked. It could even be someone on the road talk, for that matter.
'I hear the lunch is ready.' Archie said as he got a little more comfortable on the couch.
'Let's get some and get the hell out of this nest.' he looked beside him. Mojo had gotten off the couch and was halfway down the living room to get his lunch. 'Jeez. Such a dog.'
A good plate of tuna and a plate of Chicken was served to the boys who enjoyed a good meal before Mojo decided to head out to take a dump.
The colliding noise of two metals caught the attention of the boys and Archie rushed to the door followed by their aunt.
'Hey, little boy! Mommy missed you guys so much!' Mommy sat there rubbing Mojo's tummy, who was now lying supine with his legs raised up while he grinned and let mommy rub his tummy.
'Guess what I got?' She stood up. Mojo sat up straight as his eyes lit up. 'Doggo treats for my little pupper!' she screamed as she pulled a packet out and tossed one up in the air. Mojo made a leap and caught the treat between his jaws and began to chew on to it. 'Go poopy and come back in there. Alright?' She said as she began walking in. Mojo ignored it and followed her to the living room.
'Hey, you.' she hugged her cousin. She sat on the couch and Archie walked over and sat on her lap, claiming his territory, his throne. 'There's my kitty cat!' she stroked him under his neck. Mojo sat on the floor, ignoring the world over his snack.
'Thank god your back. I missed you.' Archie said in his head while his face still looked like he was going to rip her apart.
'I hope they didn't trouble you.' she said to her cousin.
'Us? We were a delight. She was a prick though. She farts in her sleep.' he meowed.
'What is it, baby?' she picked him up and played with him, unable to understand a thing while he played along like the dumb cat he pretended to be. Some terrific acting skills he had.
They got into the car with two baskets carrying their food bowls, towels and toys in each.
Archie sat on his regular armrest/partition in the back seat while Mojo took the seat beside him.
Mommy started the engine and began driving towards home.
'I think I need to poop real bad.' Mojo lowered his voice as he got closer to Archie's face.
A pop sound and a second later the car stank like there was a gas leak.
'Meow!' he yowled aloud. 'Mojo!' Mommy dragged at the same time. 'Should've left you with the ugly bird.' Archie murmured while Mojo pretended like nothing out of the normal had happened. His puppy eyes became pretentiously curious as he looked out of the window.
Upon reaching the house, they both ran in while Archie entered through the small opening at the door for him. Mojo waited outside until Mommy opened the door with her keys. They rushed in, into the kennel Mojo had which also had room for Archie on the top. Mommy began unpacking their things and began setting up the table for some coffee. She saw the boys play and rest by their tiny house and smiled at their silly cute faces wondering how she'd spent a week without them.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Archie's ears straightened and moved a little. His sharp hazel eyes looked at the door facing the balcony. He made a quick leap and ran towards it. He put his forelegs up against the door and began scratching it as he meowed loudly. His face looked tensed and he seemed very restless. Mommy ran to him and saw him behave weirdly. 'What is it, kitty?' she asked. He continued to scratch the door and meow aloud.
'Move. Let me see.' She came closer. She heard a faint cry. A dying voice. Meows getting fainter but sounding like a cry for help. She opened the door and saw what scared the living daylight out of her. She saw the neighbor's cat, Appy, hanging on the fence by the neck. Caught in a scarf, he hung there, choking and losing his breath. She quickly grabbed him and lifted him, giving him some relief and rubbed him until he got out of the shock. She called out to the neighbors and gave them a very disappointed head shake. 'Don't let your kids out with no supervision again.' she said.
She got back in and looked at Archie with utmost admiration and love. 'You're such a hero!' she kissed him. She got up, filled their bowls and walked away to her room.
'Cool move, man.' Mojo looked at him.
'All set?' Archie looked at him and smirked.
'Almost.' Mojo pulled out a weird Mobile phone like gadget from under the flower pot.
'Just need to change the batteries and we're good.'
'Well.' Archie walked closer. 'Mommy should sleep in about 9 hours. Let'
s get some rest before dinner and get back to work.'
'Aye, partner.' Mojo blinked.
'One eye, you idiot.'
'Well that's what I fried.' Mojo said.
'You what?'
'Tried. Sorry man. It's the accent my the doggo family uses.'
Archie shook his head.
'Woof.' Mojo shook his head.
'What now?'
'I just sighed. God, can't a dog sigh at peace in this house.' Mojo walked out wagging his tail. 'I ate your fish by the way.'
'How's it going?' Archie asked.
